Café Hacienda Real
By far the best coffee Beatrice and Dante have come across in their travels has been roasted at Hacienda Real, just outside of San Jose in Escazú, Costa Rica. All the coffee is small-batch roasted on antique artisanal roasters, and each batch is directly overseen by the master roasters at Hacienda Real.
Hacienda Real only uses the best Costa Rican beans, and their house blend of arabica and peaberry coffee is stunning. Peaberry, which is a natural bean mutation of arabica and robusto coffee strains, only has one bean per fruit (as opposed to the usual two beans per fruit). The result is a bean that is extremely low acid and smooth. There is nothing like an espresso made with just peaberry beans!
When you order coffee from Hacienda Real it is roasted to order, in any combination of whole bean or ground; light, medium or dark roast (Beatrice and Dante’s FAVOURITE roast), and shipped directly to your door.
Cheating on Fear has partnered with Café Hacienda Real to get this amazing coffee in your next cup. Visit GoldenBean.net and be sure to use the promo code CHR2023 to help support the podcast and receive 10% off your order!

082. The Business of Love
If there is a way to make money off of something, there is already someone, or some corporation, out there trying to do just that! Using the foundations of our psyche, and manipulation techniques, corporations are making millions off of keeping us engaged with their product. With reality dating shows, there always seems to be a new concept to hook us in.
081. “Nice Guys” Don’t Finish at All
It’s International Women’s Day! Let’s see how Deadpool celebrates it. Turns out there’s a big difference between policemen and firemen, and if you have BDE make sure it isn’t Big Demitri Energy.

080. This is (Not) 40
We’re told from all sides about what aging is going to be like for us, often with a dose of fear thrown in. This is 40 shows us what to expect for our 5th decade, and it’s not great. 079. The White Lotus: Sex, Lies & Non-Monogamy

065. Thank You for Being a Friend
Spend some time with some best friends, and some awful ones, but definitely get a fitness watch like an Apple Watch (US, Canada) in case your Peloton workout goes awry. Dante hopes his fifties look more like Fashion Santa’s than Carrie’s, and Drs. Wednesday Martin and Jen Gunter should help provide an accurate portrayal of what your future as a woman looks like.
‘Tis the Season
It’s the Holiday season and Beatrice and Dante are spending time with their families. See you all in 2022!

The three stars of Indecent Proposal have made a ton of movies, and Beatrice and Dante have picked their favourites below, as well as the best of the “make men cry” genre (aka sports movies!), how to make the perfect espresso with your Hacienda Real beans just like Dante’s Nonna, and what is really up with Will Smith?
062. The Triumphant Return
Check out Dante’s Ultimate Christmas Movie playlist (plus one bonus movie)!
061. When Dante is Away, Beatrice Will Play
Maverick showed us that you can succeed at your objective, and still fail, Lil Dicky fumbles Doja Cat, and Beatrice is feeling Tay Tay lately.
060. And Just Like That, We Revisit Sex and the City: Season 6
No one does condescending like Christian Bale, fuck Berger, and Smith is the GOAT.
059. And Just Like That, We Revisit Sex and the City: Season 5
If you want to see who Beatrice had a brief crush on (only while wearing a nursing bra!) check out Matthew Broderick in Inspector Gadget. You can pick up some real life columns and monologues that were made into books, see how a vampire would neg you, see how MLM’s are borderline cults, and have your faith in humanity restored with Ted Lasso.
058. When the Bad Guy Is a Black Belt with Victora Parsons Gracie
Victoria Parsons Gracie is crushing it on all cylinders, whether it’s on Instagram (@vicgracie), writing children’s books, or even designing a grappling dummy for kids! If you’re curious about the Women Empowered program, you can check out the amazing video below, or get the program from Gracie University.
057. And Just Like That, We Revisit Sex and the City: Season 4
Despite the seemingly bleaker prospects the four face in season four, it is noticeably more hopeful than season three. Take a page out of Beatrice (and Samantha’s) book and get some photos done to commemorate how fabulous you are. If you live in the golden horseshoe of Ontario you should definitely check out COF friend of the show Melissa Kelly on Instagram, Facebook and at her website.
056. And Just Like That, We Revisit Sex and the City: Season 3
Season three of Sex and the City reminded Dante of when he got laser eye surgery, the differences between police officers and firefighters (as told by puppets), how everyone has a different understanding of what “wet work” is, and a whole playlist of movies that are guaranteed to leave you teary, frightened, or both!
055. Je Me Souviens…
All the way from La Belle Province, Beatrice and Dante tackle the different ways aging affects, and is perceived by society, men and women. Mike Rothschild’s The Storm is Upon Us was a timely audiobook to get Beatrice and Dante to Quebec, Find Johnna Minx on Instagram (@soulsearchingandsquats) or her website www.isquatforpancakes.com and hear her excellent advice for life, and Man-At-Arms has #hairgoals.
054. And Just Like That, We Revisit Sex and the City: Season 2
Back with a look at the second season, Beatrice and Dante discuss the incredibly informative Explained episode on Dogs (S03E04), how Ali G took his cues from Mitch Sailor, inner monologues from Boomerang, and Carrie’s ridiculous homage to the Way We Were.
053. And Just Like That, We Revisit Sex and the City: Introduction & Season 1
After 94 episodes over 6 seasons and 1 movie (OK, 2 movies, but we promised not to mention the god awful, obvious money grab of a sequel movie), the iconic series has inspired a lot of conversation between Beatrice and Dante.
In this look at the first season, COF favourite of the four, Kim Cattrall, starred in Big Trouble in Little China alongside Kurt Russell, Love in Paradise: The Caribbean, A 90 Day Story will fill that 90 Day Fiance-shaped hole in your heart, Mayhem was originally Carrie’s booty call, Mindy Kaling has perhaps the best line about why you shouldn’t sleep with someone, DeAnne Smith has some dating advice for straight men, and Dr. Wednesday Martin’s book Untrue provides insights into female sexuality that we didn’t have when SATC first aired.
052. Sex/Life: I Have to Pick?
There is a lot to unpack in the Netflix original series Sex/Life. There is the original source material, but Dr. Justin Lehmiller’s fantastic book Tell Me What You Want is probably a better guide to figuring out how to make your desires a reality. Dante found the movie with the ravishment fantasy, the little Australian gem The Little Death.
The play party towards the end of Season 1 looks an awful lot like the party Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman attended in Eyes Wide Shut. Leading Lady Parts, the insanely catchy Build a Bitch and the pretty much always disturbing visuals from Dr. Pimple Popper should help you pass some time. Just maybe leave a gap between Dr. Pimple Popper and eating; the Devil’s Creamsicle is hard to forget…
Can’t Talk Right Now, Doing Summer North of the Wall Shit
Beatrice and Dante are on holiday this week, but enjoy this little ear worm (SFW!). Don;t worry Brave Ones, Bea and Dante will be back next week with a spoiler-filled take on the Netflix original series Sex/Life.
050. The Jellyfish Sting and Other Tactics with Dr. Maryanne Fisher
Dr. Maryanne Fisher helps Beatrice and Dante unpack the complexities of intrasexual competition. You can find Dr. Fisher on her website.
049. Attract, Comfort, Seduce: Unpacking The Pickup Game
If it takes coercion, trickery and manipulation to get someone into bed, it's not enthusiastic consent. Check out the trailer to the documentary The Pickup Game, and read the book that came out of “Project Hollywood.” If you’re still struggling with how to understand what consent is, check out the Tea Consent video first referenced in Episode 020.
048. A Year of Cheating on Fear
It’s been an amazing first year of Cheating on Fear! All the links on this page help to support the podcast, and in this episode Dr. Wednesday Martin’s Untrue and the Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit were Brave One favourites.
046. The Final Straw
Break-ups are never easy, and the fantastic, and extremely realistic break-up scene in the Jennifer Anniston and Vince Vaughan movie of the same name is worth a watch. Will Smith will help you get back out there in Hitch, and Fifth Harmony will get your confidence soaring!
045. Non-Monogamy Myth Busting
If you are new to non-monogamy, there are likely to be more than a few myths and misconceptions running through your mind. Beatrice and Dante discuss some of the more prevalent myths that abound, and Dante calls back to one of his favourite books on the subject: Sex at Dawn,

040. Sex Work in the City
You can find Dr. Treena Orchard on her website, on Instagram, Twitter, and on Facebook. You can find Daniel Kreps’s Rolling Stone article on the Atlanta shootings, and how no one seems to be talking about the fact that it was sex workers being targeted, here. You can also check out Dr. orchard’s article in Ethos (2018 Vol. 46 Issue 1) on Shared Precarities and Maternal Subjectivities: Navigating Motherhood and Child Custody Loss Among American Women in Street-Based Sex Work.
039. Let’s Talk About Wellness, Baby!
The Wellness Industrial Complex is vast and deep! Here are some resources to help educate you on what’s really going on, and entertain you, all at the same time! In episode 29 with Dr. Wendesday Martin, Dante and Beatrice discussed the In Style article about white supremacy in yoga. And be sure to check out A User’s Guide to Cheating Death (booted from Netflix because of The Goop Lab and now found on VisionTV).
038. Working in (But Not IN) Porn with Johnna
This week Beatrice and Dante chat with holistic life coach Johnna and learn about her time in the adult film industry. You can find Johnna on Instagram @soulsearchingandsquats or on her website www.isquatforpancakes.com. There was also a lot of talk about the sorts of porn and erotica that you can feel good about consuming. Beatrice and Dante recommend (obviously NSFW!):
OMGyes
Make Love Not Porn
Kinkly
037. There is No “I” in Threesome, But There is in Nightmare
Rock Star is a great Mark Wahlberg movie that got Bea thinking about how There is No “I” in Threesome got it so wrong. Dante feels like Bea has his back like Queen Gorgo had King Leonidas’s in 300. And how There is No “I” in Threesome sort of pulled a Blair Witch Project (kind of, but not really, but almost as scary!).
036. Stoking Your Sex Life with Decoding Couples
Follow the fabulous Rachel and Stacey (and their reels!) on Instagram or at their website. For anyone interested in opening up their relationship (a little or a lot!) Beatrice and Dante have a Decoding Couples-approved reading list for you. And, if you caught the 2 references to Old School, well done you (Dante just threw you a fist bump). If you didn’t, you can grab it below!
035. The Perks of Glowing Up Late
If you didn’t peak in high school, then you’re almost like John Cusack’s character in Gross Pointe Blank, and if you did, it could be like when Monica went on a date with Chip Matthews. It could also take ages for you to reach your Last Fuckable Day as well!
034. Highly Sensitive People and Highly Sensitive Hashtags with Dr. Tom Murray
Beatrice and Dante sit down again with Dr. Tom Murray to talk about Highly Sensitive People, and the people that love them. Dr. Murray talks about how he often gets tearful during movies, and Beatrice shared which movie (starring Ellen Burstein and Alan Alda) made her and Dante weep. Dr. Murray also shared an excellent resource by Dr. Elaine Aron about the Highly Sensitive Person in Love for anyone who wnats to understand what it’s like to be, or be in love, with an HSP.
032. What Stripping Taught Me
Beatrice dishes on her time as an exotic dancer, attests to the accuracy of Hustlers, Dante imagines what Beatrice’s creepy boss looked like, and the coolest dude in Roadhouse. Oh, and be sure to check out Rick and Morty S04E08 for the brilliant Vat of Acid episode!
030. F.R.E.N.D.S: The One with All the Non-Monogamy
For everyone who is mourning the loss of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. on Netflix, you can always buy the series on iTunes, physical media from Amazon, or get a subscription to the ‘cock in the U.S., or Crave in Canada. Here’s your non-monogamy F.R.E.N.D.S. playlist (in release order):

S03E15 - The One Where Ross and Rachel Take a Break
S03E16 - The One with the Morning After
S04E01 - The One with the Jellyfish
S06E16 - The One That Could Have Been
And, if you’re looking for more media to fill that F.R.I.E.N.D.S.-shaped hole in your heart, check out the movies and series below!
029. Sex and Politics with Dr. Wednesday Martin
This week on the podcast Beatrice and Dante got to chat with Dr. Wednesday Martin. Dr. Martin has an extensive body of work (listed below!), made us aware of the conversation surrounding white supremacy in yoga, introduced everyone to the philosophy of Carrie Jenkins, the groundbreaking work of Dr. Sarah Blaffer Hrdy, and how the 45th President of the United States has followed Ruth Ben-Ghiat’s strongman playbook.
028. How to Be an Awesome Ex
Breaking up is hard to do. Being an awesome ex is even harder. This week Beatrice and Dante talk about how to be an awesome ex. In the song Somebody Kill Me, Adam Sandler perfectly encapsulates the joy of a relationship and the pain of a breakup in the the Wedding Singer.
027. Wrap it Up, Shirtballs
In this episode Beatrice and Dante reflect on the year that is rapidly coming to an end, and give you their top binge-worthy content to consume, an Instagram friend, the best eggnog you’ll ever make, and John Oliver sends 2020 out in proper fashion!
026. Fitness, Sweary History and the Manosphere Burn Heard 'Round the World with James Fell
In this episode Beatrice and Dante chat with fellow Canadian, author, sweary historian and twitter champion James Fell. Check out James Fell on Facebook and Twitter (@BodyForWife) or online at his website. Consider becoming a patron of James on Patreon for some awesome content!
You can get your daily dose of sweary history on James’s Facebook page, and mark you calendars (April 17, 2021!) for the daily posts compiled into his forthcoming book On This Day in History Shit Went Down, and start with his piece on The Myth of the Alpha Male.
025. the Sexual Politics of The Queen’s Gambit
In this episode Beatrice gives Dante a long list of things women were not allowed to do in the 1950’s and 1960’s, to set the scene for Netflix’s amazing miniseries The Queen’s Gambit. Dante explains the dread he constantly felt that violence would befell the protagonist, and the article from Maclean’s that perfectly pulled that apart. Beatrice gives her top pick for a movie with a female bisexual protagonist, and Dante uses Rick and Morty to help explain the Bechdel Test.
024. Cheating (Not) on Fear…
In this episode Beatrice and Dante take a “Is this Cheating?” quiz, Joey makes a new state (sorry, the full clip evaded Dante online, but it’s in Friends S03E19 if you want to see the whole clip), BuzzFeed ups it’s Netflix game, and the Black Mirror Season 5 episode Striking Vipers gives you the chance to experience what the other side does. Oh, and who doesn’t hear Eminem’s Without Me when someone says “back again”?
023. Conversations with Emma and Finn
Beatrice and Dante sit down with Emma and Finn of the Normalizing Non-Monagmy Podcast and discuss the amazing Savage Lovecast, the books that inspired the lightbulb moments for Beatrice (Untrue) and Dante (Sex at Dawn), when Monca and Chandler got dumped after their honeymoon, and Stella Lennon singing about what most people fear most.
022. The Cosmo Time Capsule
In this episode Beatrice and Dante thumb through a 9 year-old Cosmopolitan magazine and see how the world has changed. The Vagina Bible by Dr. Jen Gunther will probably tell you more about a vagina than Cosmo will, and Gwyneth Paltrow probably is wrong about everything (Tim Caulfield provides some compelling proof!).Seth Myers did some day drinking with Rihanna, dozens, perhaps hundreds of women are afflicted with Basic Bitch Affliction, but don’t worry, the Good Place will make everything right. Sarah Silverman has the definitive answer on what to do with your, er, his, ass fingers in Speck of Dust (spoiler alert: it’s probably why Amber has hooks for hands), and the Hump Film Festival will give you a chance for someone else to pick your porn (unfortunately it’s apparently too risqué for even a thumbnail!). While Nick Jonas can go fuck himself (we’re looking at you Jealous!), Joe Jonas is killing it in DNCE!
021. Loving and Fighting with The Lover & The Fighter
In this episode Beatrice and Dante chat with the amazing Charles DiGisco, host of The Lover & The Fighter podcast. Turns out Charles and Dante are both rom-com aficionados (check out Charles’s picks; Dante concurs and adds Hitch to the list, along with perennial favourite and Heath Ledger’s breakout role in 10 Things I Hate About You. And, if you’re looking for a series (or three!) to binge, check out the trailers for Stranger Things, The Boys, and The Mandalorian.
020. The “Talk” (Big and Littles Edition)
In this episode Beatrice and Dante talk about how, and when, to talk to your kids about sex and sexuality. Books such as The Vagina Bible by Dr. Jennifer Gunther, and Drawn to Sex, Vols. 1 & 2 by Erika Moen and Matthew Nolan, and Dr. Gunther’s CBC Gem series Jensplaining are all useful tools to provide accurate, and often funny, information about the human body. James Fell accurately sums up parent’s frustrations with Callou. Consent is something that is key to a healthy understanding of sex and sexuality, and how you teach it to your children depends on their age. Not every adult understands the concept of consent, but fortunately NPR has a 3-part series on consent. If you can understand Tea you can understand consent, and for the younger audience, a kids version.
Despite having a Ph.D. Ross is not a Doctor, Borat is back in America in a surprisingly touching (but still NSFW) sequel, and Cardi B and Megan thee Stallion may have an answer to the age old question of what the female analogue to jizz is.
019. The Death of Celebrity Culture
In this episode Beatrice and Dante talk about the death of celebrity culture in 2020. Lady Gaga talked about it in Donatella, and Prof. Timothy Caulfield spent two seasons tackling pseudo-science and celebrity experts on A User’s Guide to Cheating Death (booted from Netflix because of The Goop Lab and now found on VisionTV).
Often, the celebrities who have cultivated a “nice” image are often anything but. Check out the two clips below about Ellen DeGeneres and her behaviour. Mark Manson talks about what Love actually is in his great post Love is Not Enough.
2020 has been a heck of a year, and I think we’re all ready for it to end. And remember, no matter how bad your life is, at least you’re not a pearlfish!
018. Sex (Positive) Therapy with Dr. Tom Murray
In this episode Beatrice and Dante sit down and have a fascinating conversation with sex & relationship and forensic sexologist Dr. Tom Murray. If you aren’t following Dr. Murray on Instagram or Twitter, you definitely need to! You can also find him on his website as well. And in a brilliant piece of casting (not only for his acting ability but also his apparent similarity to Dr. Kinsey and his… picklock) be sure to check out Liam Neeson as Dr. Alfred Kinsey in Kinsey.
017. Sex Toys with Cam and R.C.
In this episode Beatrice and Dante sit down with their friends Cam and R.C. to talk about sex toys and the experience Cam and R.C. have had in search of the perfect toy. The episode standouts are below!
016. Fernweh (Trust Us…)
In this episode Beatrice and Dante talked about the book that launched Anthony Bourdain’s post-chef career, Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly (trust Dante and get the audiobook!), Naomi Klein’s incredible and eye-opening The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism, introduced you all to rambutan, and the sweet, sweet deliciousness of micro-roasted Costa Rican coffee from Hacienda Real.
015. WHORigin Stories
In this episode Beatrice and Dante talk about parents being mortified of the content of a movie in 21 Jump Street, how babies are selected in The Boss Baby, and an entertaining take on the lives of Alfred Kinsey and William H. Masters & Virginia E. Johnson in Kinsey and Masters of Sex. Having a slumber party? Beatrice recommends 9 1/2 Weeks, and you can rock out like a 13 year old Dante with Vanilla Ice and Ice Ice Baby.
014. The Warrior in the Garden
In this episode Beatrice and Dante discuss how Criminals Choose Their Victims and why self defense classes might actually get you hurt. Beatrice points out Jackson Katz’s research about the differences between what men and women do to avoid sexual assault. The documentary The Hunting Ground is definitely a must-watch. On the lighter side of things there is Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Karate Kid (the original, not the 2000’s re-make!) and the excellent nostalgia throw-back Cobra Kai and the guilty pleasure Superbad. For a masterful interview, look no further than Jordan Klepper as he interviews supporters at Trump rallies in 2016. And of course, your weekly ear worm, Get Lucky by Daft Punk feat. Pharell.
013. The Power of the Nature Pill
In this episode Beatrice and Dante discuss the Silence, Please by Amy Novotney that Beatrice found on the APA website, Dante talks about a “Big Year”, and Beatrice discusses the deliciously creepy movie Se7en. Ripple Effect by Dr. Greg Wells is an excellent read, and so is Civilized to Death by one of Beatrice and Dante’s favourite authors, Chris Ryan. Toxic noise can really mess with your mental state, and nature can be the cure, as we read in the Washington Post article City noise supercharged my anxiety. It was nature sounds that saved me by Paige Towers. If you’re looking for an ear worm Ram Jam has you covered! And, we can always use a little grounding.
012. So You Want to Go to a Sex Club…
In this episode Beatrice and Dante talk about everything you need to know before visiting your local sex club. You can take the BDSM Test to see where you and your partner’s desires lie. If your’re looking for a good laugh, check out one of Dante’s favourite movies, Bedazzled and see if you agree that there has never been a hotter devil than Elizabeth Hurley! If you like the idea of getaway to a sex club you could jump on a plane to Cancun, Mexico and check into Desire or Temptation.
011. Stay in Your Lane, Bruh: Part 2
In this episode we talk about the very clever, and thought provoking, BBC short film Leading Lady Parts.
010. Stay in Your Lane, Bruh: Part 1
In this episode we talk about the writings of Dr. Wednesday Martin (Untrue) and Mark Manson (Everything is F*cked: A Book About Hope) and the unexpectedly hilarious Quibi show Dummy and the expose documentary on USA Gymnastics on Netflix, Athlete A.
009. Breaking the Iron Rules
In this episode we talked about The Matrix movies and Will Smith’s 2005 movie Hitch. We saved you tracking down Rollo Tomassi’s 9 Iron rules and directed you to an awesome summary video. Ever have a Plantar’s Wart? Here’s a video on how to get rid of them!
008. Emotional War Buddies (Boys Don’t Cry… But They Should)
In this episode we talked about The Good Men Project, the very funny movie Billy Madison and UK TV show The Inbetweeners, and the Warrior Retreat that Dante went to run by the amazing Grace Cirocco.
007. Fit to be in Love
In this episode Dante talked about the StrongLifts 5x5 program that Beatrice turned him on to, and how we built our own Garage Gyms. If you’re looking to start building your own home gym, Rogue Fitness USA and Canada are a great place to start! Dr. Martin Gibala, Beatrice’s HIIT professor, has an awesome website and his book is an excellent resource for science behind HIIT, with tons of information and sample workouts!
006. Matchmakers: The OG Dating App
In this episode we talk about the Netflix Original Series Indian Matchmaking, our old favourite 90 Day Fiance, the classic Blue Lagoon, and the NY Times Modern Love column’s The 36 Love Questions that will make any two people fall in love. Should you dare???
005. WE WERE ON A BREAK!!!
